Without further ado, let’s get into it!
From your perspective, what are the key steps for someone to successfully transition into the tech industry, especially for women coming from non-tech backgrounds?
Transitioning into tech can feel like a big leap, but it’s absolutely achievable with the right approach. First, focus on identifying transferable skills from your current or past roles—whether that’s problem-solving, communication, or project management. Next, immerse yourself in the industry by networking, attending events, and following thought leaders. And most importantly, invest in education that is tailored to your career goals—like the online upskilling course, bootcamps or dedicating time to read up, listen in and follow your industry of interest, therefore continuing to help you build practical, job-ready skills.
Imposter syndrome is a common challenge for many women in tech. How do you help your clients navigate and overcome it during their career development journey?
I’ve personally experienced imposter syndrome and have worked with many individuals who’ve successfully overcome it. While it can feel overwhelming, I cannot encourage you more to see it as a sign of growth, a signal that you’re stepping outside your comfort zone and challenging yourself.
The key lies in shifting your mindset: focus on your achievements, celebrate small wins, and reframe self-doubt by recognizing the unique contributions you bring to the table. Building confidence is a journey, and tools like storytelling workshops and confidence-building exercises can make a big difference. These not only help you feel more secure but also empower you to articulate your narrative effectively, whether in the workplace or during interviews, unlocking opportunities that align with your strengths and goals.
Networking is often seen as a crucial part of career growth. What are your top strategies for building meaningful connections in the tech industry?
You’ll hear me talk about crossing the cringe-factor line a lot, but once you do, it’ll become second nature. Start by being intentional about the spaces you engage in, whether that’s LinkedIn, industry-specific Slack groups, or local meetups. Show genuine interest in others’ work by asking thoughtful questions, and don’t shy away from reaching out to people who inspire you. Remember, networking is about giving as much as receiving, so offer your perspective or assistance where possible. Lastly, consistency is key; nurturing connections over time can lead to unexpected opportunities. Knowing someone who knows someone is my job searching mantra!
Career development is a big focus at allWomen. What new services have been implemented in the bootcamps recently, and how do you think they will help our students in their tech careers?
We’ve recently introduced a series of hands-on career workshops, covering everything from LinkedIn audits and CV strategies to AI-powered job search tips and interview preparation. These are designed to give students practical tools they can use right away. Additionally, our biannual Talent Day connects students directly with value-driven companies, offering a bridge into meaningful employment. By combining technical skills with career readiness, we’re setting our students up for long-term success.

The tech job market is constantly evolving. How do you guide women to stay adaptable and continue growing in their careers after landing their first tech job?
I cannot emphasize enough the importance of a growth mindset. Continuous learning whether it’s through online courses, workshops, or even experimenting with new tools on your own. Staying curious and informed about industry trends is vital, as is being open to feedback and seeking mentorship. I also remind women to set long-term career goals while remaining flexible, as the tech industry often rewards those who adapt to change.
What’s one piece of advice you’d give to women who feel hesitant or unsure about their ability to succeed in the tech world?
Honestly, you are far more capable than you think! The tech industry needs diverse perspectives, and your unique background is your superpower. Start by believing in your ability to learn and grow, and don’t be afraid to ask for support or take small steps forward. Surround yourself with a supportive community and remember that success is built one step at a time.
