Here’s another myth that holds women back from studying tech all the time! And that’s the idea that working with code is overwhelming and you have to spend the whole day alone.
We hear this a lot from our prospective students when they come and talk to us about their fears of entering a technology discipline. But luckily Data Science alumna Ariadna Cuffi has a few words of advice for anyone who’s come across this myth.
Many women think of coding as a job that people do alone in a dark room sitting in front of a computer all day and speaking to no one. While, of course, computer time is inevitable in our digital world, the truth of writing code and analyzing data is far from lonely or overwhelming.
Take it from Ariadna, who became a Data Analyst for Domestika after studying Data Analytics with allWomen.
“As a Data Analyst for the Revenue team at Domestika, I wouldn’t be able to do my job if it wasn’t for the people I talk to every day. Communication is key to analyzing data well.
First, you speak with your stakeholders to make sure that you understand what they want to explore in the data. And for me, the best part is actually showing them the insights that I’ve found and discussing it further.
Another one my highlights of working as a Data Analyst is that we have a meeting every day where we all talk about the projects that we’re working on with different teams. It’s great because we help each other to see our work from different perspectives. So, as you can see, being a Data Analyst doesn’t mean you’ll be stuck at your computer by yourself coding all day.
